 Lakenheath - Away

Haverhill lost the toss and were asked to field first as the home team only had 10 men. This remained the case as Lakenheath could not find another man throughout the game to participate. Davis and Poole opened the bowling as usual and put in sublime performances. The use of the new ball was crucial as Davis ripped out Pallent and then Frith first ball with a cracking yorker. Poole removed Milner for 9, then Bowers and Wilderspin both for 0. This left Lakenheath struggling on 27-5. Poole returned excellent figures of 10-4-8-3 to prove what a top notch new ball bowler he is. Davis bowled well especially into a stiff breeze. In the meantime however, Leech (50) and Wade (10) tried to rebuild the innings. Woodley and Pass replaced both bowlers in a bid to make the breakthrough and Woodley struck in his second over removing Wade. This was thanks to a brilliant one handed catch by wicketkeeper Phil Dingley. Pass, as usual, bowled well without any luck. Again, another partnership formed as the ball got battered and softer. Dellar replaced Woodley and struck twice in 2 overs to scalp Leech and Horrex. At 109-8 Lakenheath managed to smash their way to 151 at the end of 40 overs.

In reply, Fox and Powell built steadily and repelled the early bowling. Powell hit the bad ball while Fox nudged and held up an end. With the score on 52, Powell was caught behind for 23. Fox kept on his merry way while L Youngs (19) and Dellar (16) upped the run rate with some boundary hitting and quickly run threes. At 99-3 the match could have swung either way. Poole eased Haverhill fears with a measured and calm 36 not out to steer the team home. Fox fell for an important 36 and Sharpe was adjudged LBW for 5 to give Lakenheath some bonus points, however, Davis and Poole saw Haverhill to their target with 13 overs to spare and with 5 wickets in hand.
