Haverhill 2nds hosted Melton St Audrey on Saturday at Manor Road on a breezy dry day . The Visitors had comprehensively beaten the Home side earlier in the season so revenge was on the cards .
Skipper Wilkins lost the toss and the Visitors decided to bat first . Haverhill had possibly their strongest side of the season out so were expecting a good performance . Stu Ketteridge and Russell Davis opened the bowling and troubled both Batsmen with their pace and movement with Davis particularily unlucky as a couple of catches were dropped off him . The Visitors advanced to 74 - 0 after 19 Overs before Joey Kettle got the breakthrough by bowling the aggressive Bloomfield for 47.Kettle bowled 7 overs for 41 taking 2 wickets as Martyn Wilkins bowled 11 overs , 4 maidens , 19 runs and 3 wickets at the other end to keep the Visitors in check . Davis returned to take 2 for 37 from 11 overs as Melton completed their overs with a score of 160-7 . Haverhill failed again to bowl out the Opposition but bowled well but were let down by some shoddy fielding at times .
Neil Winter ( 34) and Sam Hartshorn (7) opened against a useful bowling attack and Hartshorn soon departed with the score on 14 . Phil Jones ( 6) did not last long as Haverhill found themselves 26-2 after 7 Overs . But Liam Savage (72 not out) joined Winter in a partnership of 77 that started slowly but increased the run rate before Winter was bowled in the 26th Over . Russell Davis then joined the fun with an aggressive 31 not out as Haverhill won in the 33rd over .
Liam batted superbly and scored 11 fours and a six and a partnership of 60 runs with Davis that only took 6 overs to compile . Russell also struck the ball cleanly scoring 3 fours and a big six .
Haverhill have three matches to play and sit in third position in the League at present . We have to win all these matches and hope that Bury 3rds or Brightlingsea 2nds slip up but the remaining fixtures are tough matches so nothing can be taken for granted . |
