 Worlington - Away

Worlington vs Haverhill Sunday firsts

Haverhill lost the toss and were asked to bat on a green, damp and sloping track. The toss ultimately helped to decide the way the game would pan out. In the worst of the batting conditions, Haverhill lost both openers Steve Fox and Liam Botten for 0. At 0-2, Luke Youngs and Dan Poole rebuilt the innings watchfully with the pair putting on 67. Just as the runs started to flow, Youngs fell caught at midwicket for 27. Poole fell for a fine 42 and Davis soon followed with both balls slightly popping off the track. Bradford joined Dan Wilkins and a partnership formed which gave Haverhill something to bowl at. Wilkins hit 54 and Bradford 29. As before though, both fell just as they got going leaving the lower order of Dingley, Sharpe and Woodley to scrape some vital runs to get Haverhill over 175 and earn another  crucial bonus point. Haverhill finished on 177-8. This was somewhat under par, as with the sun baking and drying the pitch, batting conditions got much better as the innings and game went on.
In reply, Russell Davis bowled his heart out to claim 3 wickets, however, the pitch had flattened out and the ball was not doing much. Haverhill made 2 early breakthroughs before Worlington had reached 40, however, steady batting from Bacon and G Ford kept the bowling at bay. Woodley and Sharpe bowled economically but could never really threaten enough to make the breakthroughs required Poole, Youngs and Pass bowled well without any luck. Davis got his third, that of Ford in his last over for 55 but Worlington eased to wicket with 7 wickets and 5 overs to spare.
