Haverhill 2nds v Elveden
Sunday 22nd August 2010.
The Hylands Park V festival and summer holidays meant a sadly depleted Elveden team arrived at the Manor Road ground to play a vital match for both teams aiming to avoid relegation. Elveden elected to bat and openers Curtis and Harrington started well, both scoring off anything short or outside the line. The openers were scoring at four runs per over and beginning to concern the Haverhill skipper until the first vital break came from the bowling of Jack Mitchison. A miss timed pull from Curtis on 16 was nicely caught by Ben Wilkins, and very soon after Harrington on 18 was bowled by David Saville. Both openers gone with the score on 32 was the start of a rapid collapse as one Elveden wicket after another fell to Haverhill’s fine bowling and fielding. Remarkable figures from Steve Saville of 6.2 overs, 5 wickets for 3 runs supported by Jack Mitchison 6 overs, 2 for 17. Elveden were all out for 54 in 26 overs. Haverhill’s regular openers Sam Hartshorn and Ben Wilkins batted through and won the game for Haverhill in only thirteen overs. Hartshorn was particularly impressive scoring 44 not out. A vital win and twenty points for Haverhill, but there is still plenty of work to do in the last two games of the season if they are to stay in Division 4. |
