ROUGHAM v HAVERHILL SUNDAY 2ND XI
15th AUGUST 2010.
Haverhill won the toss and put Rougham into bat. What was immediately apparent was the gulf in maturity and experience between the two sides, Haverhill with only two players over 18, against a Rougham side with one young player and an average age around thirty. Good economic opening spells of bowling from Ryan Fowler and Tom Saville saw the ten over total at only 28. Rougham accelerated from here to average around 50 each ten overs, but never really got away from Haverhill. Wickets fell to each of the five bowlers used with the pick of the bunch being Anthony Phillips with 3 for 32 from his eight overs. Haverhill bowled and fielded well to restrict this strong Rougham side to a total of 172 for 7 at the lose of the innings. Rougham posted their intent from the start of Haverhill’s innings with fast bowling supported by a very attacking field. Haverhill were very soon on trouble, losing their best batsman Sam Hartshorn in the first over. Survival at the crease was relatively short for most of the Haverhill batsmen. The only exception was a 35 run partnership between Billy Gage (20) and Graham Brandejs (16). The end came in the 26th over with the score on 73. Haverhill’s young side had been bruised and beaten, but will have learnt important lessons from the game.
