Haverhill 1sts vs Battisford Division one 15-08-2010
Haverhill won the toss and decided to bowl first on a greenish wicket that had been under covers for a few days. Russell Davis continued his great form picked up a wicket in his first over, with Sam Pass gratefully holding on. Davis continually beat the bat and had exceptional control over both swing and seam. His quality was rewarded with a further 2 wickets, with G Smith bowled and Z Smith caught by Woodley. He finished with brilliant figures of 10-1-20-3. Poole at the other end was miserly as ever tying the batsmen in knots. Woodley replaced Poole and finished with 7-4-10-3. Wickets kept falling as C Nohawan, M Mohawan and Sillet became victims of Woodley. Dean Sharpe eventually found his rhythm and claimed his customary 2 wickets for 33. Sam Pass knocked over Cage for 0 and the other wicket to fall was a class run out from Joey Kettle. Despite brief resistance at the end, Battisford collapsed to 87 all out off 33 overs. In reply, despite losing Joey Kettle for only 1 in the fifth over, the ever improving Steve Fox (40*) and Adam Dellar (48*) saw Haverhill home before drinks without any real problems. Dellar was dropped off a tough caught and bowled chance but the quality and supremacy of the two shone through. Battisford bowled tight and disciplined at the start but the pair saw this through and hit a flurry of boundaries to ease Haverhill to a sixth straight victory in division one. |
