Haverhill 2nd XI v Great Cornard
Sunday 8th August 2010.
Haverhill were put in by Cornard on a greenish but hard track. Without Sam Hartshorn, Haverhill opened with the father and son pairing of Martyn and Ben Wilkins. Both out for 8, followed by Chris Thompson, also on 8, meant that Haverhill were once again finding things difficult with the bat. The middle order batted well with Liam Savage scoring a very good 42, supported by Joey Kettle 18, Graham Brandejs 15 and Steve Saville 24no. A total of 141 for 9 was achieved in the 40th over. With a relatively low total to defend Haverhill needed to bowl accurately and field well. Both were achieved from Haverhill with a particularly mean spell from Martyn Wilkins 10-4-21-1. Good bowling also from Jack Mitchison, David Saville and Joey Kettle kept the run rate below what was required until the 25th over. By this time Zimbabwean opener Sean Cooper ( 66no ) had established himself enough to start to accelerate. The target was reached with four overs and seven wickets to spare. Another defeat for Haverhill 2nds but a big improvement on last week’s performance.
