Haverhill 2nds travelled to Ipswich to play Kesgrave who were promoted with Haverhill last year. They have had a mixed season so far but would prove a tough nut on their own ground . Skipper Wilkins lost the toss and was invited to bat first on a lively looking wicket .The opening bowlers Gallant and Colver were a lively pair and reduced the visitors to 38-4 0ff 9 overs . Wickets continued to tumble as Haverhill found themselves 90-7 off 17 overs . Jason Ketteridge (68) and Tom Saville ( 28) then enjoyed a partnership of 74 runs in good time before Ketteridge fell after a typically aggressive innings . At this time only 26 overs had passed and with 20 overs to go a big score was possible . Saville and Martyn Wilkins (15) shared another partnership of 47 to take the score to 211-9. Tom Saville finally fell with the score on 214 which was a great recovery from 90-7 .
This recovery seemed to take the life out of the home side and when they batted found runs hard to come by . Wilkins ( 11-2-34-1) had removed the dangerous D.Gallant early and the 2nd wicket pair decided to survive rather than score runs . The 2nd wicket did not fall until the 24th over but the score was only 70 . Tom Saville ( 6-2-10-1) and Joey Kettle ( 7-2-21-3) bowled brilliantly in the middle of the innings and the mercurial Dan Webb ( 7-1-20-4) moped up the tail and a run out finished off Kesgrave as they were all out for 124 in 41 overs . Three catches from Tom Saville and Four catches by keeper Jason Ketteridge capped off a great day in Ipswich .
We recovered from a terrible position to get a good score on tricky wicket and then bowled and fielded very well to take the match and twenty vital points . Well done all round to all involved and special mentions to Tom Saville and Joey Kettle who continue to develop into very useful talents for the future .
