RISBY v HAVERHILL SUNDAY 2ND XI
11th JULY 2010.
The old cricketing adage of “catches win matches” was very evident in this game. Haverhill took six good catches including two very fine examples by Archer and Thompson, fielded very well on a very fast outfield and worked very well together as a team. Haverhill won the toss and batted on a good pitch at Risby. Sam Hartshorn (49) and Ben Wilkins (33) gave a great start to the innings. Good middle order support was given by Chris Thompson (36) and Tom Saville (28) and Haverhill finished their 40 overs on 204 for 7. Risby’s reply was stuttering as batsmen got a start but never really got going. The exception was number 3 batsman C.Thomas (28); he was going well until brilliantly run out by Tom Saville. Risby were still keeping within an achievable run rate but were also losing wickets regularly. Three wickets for Steve Saville, two each for Liam Botten and Tom Saville, one each for David Saville and Sam Hartshorn meant Risby were all out for 161, Haverhill wining by 43 runs.
