Haverhill 2nds v Elmswell
Sunday 26th June 2010.
Haverhill were put in on a home track that had produced 400 runs the day before. This game did not follow suit as Haverhill were all out in 37 overs for 119. Five players got beyond ten runs, but none established themselves fully and all got out below twenty. Once again there were two unnecessary run outs which is the plague of Haverhill’s season, but generally the batting wasn’t up to the standard required. The reply from Elmswell was at a steady rate from the start. Haverhill introduced another new young player for his senior debut, Jack Mitchison, who opened the bowling with Tom Saville. A breakthrough came via a great catch from Tom Saville from his brother David’s bowling to remove the dangerous opener Cowley for 29. With a low total to defend it was always going to be difficult, but Haverhill battled on and removed six more wickets. Two wickets each for Steve Saville, Chris Thompson and Graham Brandejs meant the total was reached with only three Elmswell wickets remaining. If only Haverhill had scored another thirty runs, then we would have had a very tight finish. |
