 Mildenhall - Away

Mildenhall vs Haverhill 1sts Sunday.

On the hottest day of the year, Woodley won the toss and chose to bat on a hard and flat looking wicket. Openers Fox and Sullivan began steady as Haverhill moved to 33-0 off the first 12overs. Sullivan was eventually bowled by Chipchase and the in form Dan Poole came to the crease. For the second week running Fox (59) and Poole (78) put on a hundred plus partnership. Both showed great stamina in the scorching heat. The pair moved Haverhill to 158-1 with 6 overs left when both fell identically caught by Lwana within an over. Wigan, Davis and Phillips all contributed small cameos to give Haverhill 193-4 at the end of their innings.

After an extended tea to the watch the football, Woodley and Phillips (5-0-21-0) opened the bowling. Early wickets were needed, however unfortunately for the luckless Woodley (9-2-32-0), both opening batsmen were put down behind the wicket on less than 5. The South African Lwana pushed on regardless punishing any loose bowling and made his way to an effortless 50. Sam Pass was very unlucky not to have claimed a scalp. 2 further catches went down off his bowling and he beat the bat on many occasions. On a flat wicket, with Haverhill wilting in the heat, it was a formality for Lwana to reach his century and Finnis to reach a 50. Despite losing by 10 wickets, Haverhill had many positives to draw from. Early wickets and held catches could easily have made the game more interesting.
