Haverhill Sunday 2nds away to Long Melford Haverhill win by 139 runs
Haverhill lost the toss and they were put into bat it was to prove to be a good toss to lose. Ben Wilkins stepped up to open the batting with Sam Hartshorn and looked in good form before he was run out for 9,with the score on 36 Hartshorn then started to take on the Melford bowlers with the arrival of Chris Thompson they took the score to 87 before Thompson was caught for 12. In came Alex Archer who likes to play his shots and with Hartshorn put on 57 for the 3rd wicket before he went for 25. This brought Martyn Wilkins to the crease and with his experience pushed the score along at a good rate; Hartshorn was hitting the bowling to all parts of the ground before falling for a very fine innings of 85 earning him M.O.M. With the score on 172 from 28 over’s Paul Spurling joined Wilkins to push the score along at a good rate with both batsman in their 40s in the final over it was Wlikins who made it to 50 first with Spurling out on the last ball for a fine 49. With a score of 280 on the board this would prove to difficult to get .Liam Botten ( 7-1-27-1 ) playing his first game for the 2nds was asked to open the bowling and with his first ball had the dangerous Skeggs caught behind by Alex Archer,Ryan Fowler (6-0-26-1 ) opened at the other end and in his second over dismissed the other opener for 6 with the score on 19.This brought Chapman and Kemp to the crease for Melford who started to try and repair some of the early damage, a change of bowling then brought the wicket of Chapman for 20 of the bowling of David Saville ( 7-0-46-2 ) who then had Kemp caught for a fine 57.After this wickets started to tumble at regular intervals with Steve Saville ( 7-2-12-1 ) Chris Thompson ( 5-0-18-2 0 and Ben Wilkins ( 4.4-1-7—2 ) among the other wicket takers. Captain Steve Saville said it was good to get some big runs on the board this season and get back to back wins for the first time this year,
