Haverhill Sunday 1sts vs Worlington
Haverhill lost the toss again and were asked to field first. Opening bowlers Joe Woodley and Dan Poole (10-2-31-2) gave Haverhill the perfect start, reducing Worlington to 39-4 off the first 14 overs. Both bowled exceptionally well with good swing and seam movement. Woodley removed both openers and Poole removed number 3 and 4. Worlington were then let off the hook somewhat with some lacklustre bowling. Sharpe and Kettle went for 80 runs between them off their 8 overs in their initial spells. All credit to Worlingtons only real good batsman, R Ford, however, Haverhill bowled far too many ‘four balls’. Steve Fox bowled well and finished with 4-52 off his 8 overs. The damage had been done by the time Fox removed Ford and Woodley (10-1-21-3) returned to remove Du Ploy. Worlington finished up on 194 all out.
Haverhill were without regular batsmen Bradford and Sullivan, so makeshift opener Woodley opened with A Wigan. This backfired as Wigan was trapped LBW first ball of the innings by Downey and Woodley followed 9 overs later the same way for 5. Only Dan Poole (34), Steve Fox (17) and Russell Davis (23) really looked like staying at the crease and winning the game for Haverhill. All these fell when looked set and Haverhill could only muster 126 in reply. Young 15 year old debutant Aaron Forshaw fielded and batted well for Haverhill, he is one to look out for in the future.
Captain Joe Woodley said ‘We are not helping ourselves at all. Our bowling needs more heart and consistency. The guys have got to start showing they want to stay in this division. I believe we are good enough. We have to be more selfish when batting and this is the only way we will start winning games.
