Haverhill Sunday Firsts vs Ampton and Culford
On the hottest day of the year, Haverhill fielded first with Joe Woodley and Rob Sullivan opening the bowling. Things started to go wrong immediately as Estlea and C Rutterford smashed the bowling all over the park. After 10 overs Ampton had reached 106-0. Botten, Kettle and Fox could not stop the rot either as both batsmen destroyed whatever was bowled. One bright light was Sam Pass (10-0-104-1), whose leg spin brought about a number of chances, all of which Haverhill spurned. Pass could easily have had 5 wickets but he made the breakthrough eventually having Estlea stumped for 125. Woodley (9-1-47-1) returned to remove Wallis LBW and Dean Sharpe bowled well to remove S Rutterford and Baker both for 0. Debutant Ryan Fowler nipped a wicket by removing Goodwin for 23 and Sharpe run out C Rutterford for 166. Ampton finished up on 376-6.
Haverhill began their reply well with a quick flourish from Adie Wigan, however it was R Sullivan who made inroads in to the huge total. Sullivan fell for a valiant 37 and Wigan departed for 7. Joey Kettle was promoted up the order and smashed a quick fire 25 before being caught trying to go over the top. Carl Bradford stepped upto the plate and scored an impressive 72. This was his highest score for Haverhill and with Joe Woodley (46) propelled Haverhill over the 200 mark. Both fell and Dingley and Fox made the Ampton bowlers suffer with quickfire 34* and 32* respectively. Haverhill fell 112 short of the total on 264-5, but the brave fight back showed Haverhill are no pushovers.
