Haverhill 2nds v Horringer
Sunday 16th May 2010.
The eventual outcome of this game was unclear until very close to the end, as it swayed in and out of both teams grasp on several occasions. Haverhill batted first and soon found that the two ends played very differently, one with bounce and the other keeping very low with some inconsistent patches of track which undid several batsmen. Regular early wickets fell and the total reached 74 for 4 at twenty overs with Anthony Phillips (34) and Paul Spurling (19) batting well. With the score at 88 for 6 and the game very much in Horringer’s hands there was late resistance from Ben Wilkins, Steve Saville and a very resilient Tom Saville with 37 not out. Haverhill were all out for 157, yet again not using all their allotted overs. Horringer’s reply was well ahead of the target rate from the start. With the score on 98 for 2 at twenty overs the game looked over for Haverhill. Bowling changes were made to try and defend the small remaining target and had an immediate effect. One game changing moment was the wicket of big hitter Jakeman to a stunning catch by David Saville from the bowling of Steve Saville. This wicket proved vital as it was the last of the quality batsmen, Steve Saville finishing with great figures of 5 for 23 off 10 overs. Further late batting resistance was shown to worry the home side for a while, but Haverhill won the game by 26 runs with a fine team display. |
