Acton vs Haverhill Sunday 1sts
Visiting skipper Joe Woodley lost the toss and was put into bat on a hard and dry wicket. Despite some pacey bowling from Moulton Day, Haverhill failed to capitalise on the bad balls and were a poor 23-1 off 12 overs. Sullivan fell attempting to up the rate and Godwin joined Wigan. Wigan was caught and bowled for 1 and Poole marched to the crease. Godwin (45) and Poole (60) upped the rate and put on a great 80 partnership. Both perished with the score on 120 with 10 overs to go. Davis, Woodley and Bradford provided quick and small cameos to propel Haverhill to a very much below par 174 off their allotted 40 overs.
Davis made a very early breakthrough in reply, removing the dangerous Wright, well caught by Bradford, for 5. Garner held firm at the other end (84) and punished any loose bowling. Wickets fell steadily with Davis (3-41) and Poole (3-46) the main contributors, who both bowled with good skill and confidence. Haverhill never really had enough runs on the board and the partnership between Garner and Ponsford (35) took the game away from Haverhill. Sullivan chipped in with 2 wickets but the Acton tail held their nerve and won with 2 wickets to spare with 3 overs left to be bowled.
