WOOLPIT ACADEMY v HAVERHILL SUNDAY 2ND XI
9TH MAY 2010.
Haverhill won the toss and batted on a very good firm track at Woolpit. What followed was a performance well below the standards set by, and now expected from Haverhill. Notable exceptions to this were a solid 28 from the reliable Paul Spurling, a quick 23 not out from Tom Saville. Brief glimpses of their potential were also shown by Anthony Phillips and David Saville, but that is all that can be said on the positive side. The remainder of the innings can be summarised by saying that there were two completely unnecessary run outs and seven batsmen scored two runs or less. The final miserable statistic from this thoroughly forgettable debacle was that Haverhill were all out for 97 in only 32 of their allotted 40 overs. Woolpit’s reply started at five or six per over. Andy Newcombe, a quality opener, punished our bowlers at will until well caught by Tom Saville for 53. One wicket apiece for Steve Saville, David Saville, Anthony Phillips and Steve Fox meant the total was reached for four wickets in only 24 overs. Overall, a performance that was nowhere near good enough, but hopefully was only a one off. |
