 General Information

 Sudbury Ist XI - Home
Sudbury won the toss and elected to field on a lovely batting wicket. Under cloudy skies swing merchants Poole and Botten were chosen to open the bowling and this paid immediate dividends. Sudbury 1st team captain, Siegert was removed second ball by Botten and Poulson edged Poole behind to a grateful Sullivan.  Sudbury countered and batted sensibly until Nathan Poole clipped to Woodley at midwicket off Dan Poole. This brought D Batch to the crease and his innings of 67 propelled Sudbury to 208. Woodley, Kettle, Sullivan and Saville bowled well, however Batch held the innings together and turned a mediocre score into a good score.
After tea, Adrian Wigan and Rob Sullivan opened the batting for Haverhill. Both looked at ease against some medium pace bowling and Sullivan was unlucky to be given out after what looked like a head high no-ball. Wigan soon fell plumb LBW and the next partnership would go a long way to deciding the match. Dellar and Dan Poole put on a 59 run partnership and looked to be taking the game away from Sudbury, until Batch was introduced into the attack. He ripped through the brittle Haverhill middle order, producing figures of 4-30. Dellar was caught at point for 43, Poole was bowled for 20 and Dean Sharpe fell second ball for 0. At the other end, Dingley was trapped LBW for 0 by Backler and this brought Joe Woodley and Russell Davis together. Despite a brief cameo of 25 from an injured Davis, the game looked to be slipping away from Haverhill. Woodley held up an end as bad weather came in, Kettle fell after a very fine 19, and Botten survived for 6 not out as the torrential rain put a premature end to the game with Haverhill needing 42 off 5 overs.
