The first's entertained Witham at the Manor on saturday and with nice weather and a good track it looked like a batters day.
With the visitors winning the toss and batting it was going to be hard work. They rattled up to 60 odd off 10 and that was with Silvers bowling as well.
Del boy turned to Youngsey after the Sheriff had cleaned up one of the openers. He took the pace off the ball and the scoring rate dropped dramatically. Ealham picked up a couple of wickets as did Russ and with Big Sam taking three including Whitham's impressive opener things looked good when they were reduced to 186 for 6. A late flurry pushed them up to 232 for 8 but probably 20-30 short of what they wanted.
We finally got a good start with Godders hitting to sixes (i cannot believe it) and Webby back to his best. 74 for the first wicket, del boy added 24 and Powelly 25.
There was a bit of a fuss about DP's dismissal but Webby's 84 proved to be match winning. Wince batting the order went cheaply as did Youngsey but Silver's knocked off the runs with 3 overs to spare.
Three wins on the bounce and two good chases have put us in a decent position but it's going to be a hard season and every point will count.
Thanks to Rob and excellent BBQ and to Jon Kettle for his help. Good work by the bar staff as usual and a good night for all. Well done to the '2's as they remain unbeaten. Hopefully next week will bring much of the same. !!!!!!!!!!
