| Sudbury III - Away |

IT'S DOWN TO THE WIRE. The small band of faithful supporters that follow the 2's have worked out long before today that we never make things easy for ourselves and so it proved with our latest effort against Sudbury at Bures. Yes, the pitch was poor but we must apply ourselves to play on all surfaces. Our bowling and fielding was good for 30 overs but then things went pear shaped and we allowed Sudbury to reach 168 which was 30 odd more than they should have got. Extras was our best bat with 38 as we fell 9 runs short of our target. I sensed the team seemed very tense today and this affected concentration and it may have been a contributing factor to our defeat. We seemed more interested in the score updates from the 1st team than our own game.We have one more match to put things right and the statto's in our team tell me we need 6 points for the title. We will not be playing for 6 points next week, we will be playing for 20! I have obviously sounded like a miserable old git this week but I speak as I see and whoever takes over the 'honour' of Captaincy of this team next season should take Sudbury's approach as a role model with their team comprised of 3 or 4 older heads surrounded by a healthy crop of youngsters making up the eleven. For the statto's in our team here are a few facts that they probably already know: We have three players who have failed to trouble the scorers on three occasions this season who are vying for the 'Duck' trophy.I won't name them but I bet they know who they are. With one week remaining its 'Victor' 45, 'Milhouse' 43. 'Victor' has bowled more overs but has taken his at 13.98 runs per wicket with 'Milhouse' 14.30.Just shows how close it is. And finally and suprisingly, the skipper has taken the most catches. |
