KETTLE BOILS OVER, GETS STEAMED UP AND 'EYE,EYE', ITS PROMOTION!
My pre match chat centred on not getting involved in a war of words with our 'abrasive' opponents and chanelling your aggression into your bowling and fielding.It didn't take long for Joey to start 'spouting' allsorts of rubbish at the batsmen. You have to be 'bloody good' to 'chirp' and my reprimand reminded the young man he was not in that league at present.He was still 'simmering' when he came onto bowl, got dispatched to the boundary a couple of times and by now he was 'steaming'.More gentle advice from senior members of the squad and 3 overs and 5 wickets later (including a hat trick), Eye had been dispatched for just 125 and Joey was enjoying a 'brew' at teatime.
My request to play one more game with Daniel before I hang up my boots was granted and it was rewarding on a personal note for me to see him get 60 odd not out and stroke the winning cover drive that secured a 5 wicket victory, but more importantly, promotion to Div 6.Enough to bring a tear to the eye!
We have 2 games left to secure the top spot so keep up the intensity as the job is not done. |
