KEEP SMILING, IT'S ONLY A GAME AND IT'S BETTER THAN 'QUIDDITCH'. When we strode off the pitch at Halstead last week, the grins on players faces were broader than Micky's waistline.A week in cricket is a long time and the 'chewing of wasps' in the dressing room this week told the full story. I elected to miss out on Status Quo at Newmarket on Friday night in favour of accompanying my good lady wife to the latest Harry Potter. It was Ok but we can bowl 45 overs in quicker time than the length of the film and too much talk of 'muggles' and 'quidditch' wears you down. Onto the game and JW seemed to have prepared a 'belter'. The Bangladesh express was back near his best and toiled away manfully at one end and Micky seemed to bowl with extra fire.Maybe it was 'Team Rinaldi' picnicking under the trees that spurred him on but 9 fiery overs ensured the visitors were all out for 171. Happy at tea and surely our batting line up could get that total. How wrong can one be as we got ourselves in and 'guess what', we got ourselves out. However, even with our inept batting it came down to 6 required off the last over with 2 wickets left and we are still slight favourites. We are bowled out 2 runs short of the target and the young Kesgrave side are elated. I myself was left stranded at the non strikers end and having gone through the pain barrier with my dodgy Achilles I was less than pleased at the batting effort and was on the phone to JK Rowling after the game to see if she could release Ron Weezley and The Half Blood Prince to add to the squad next week. |
