100% Record Goes Last week I eulogized about winning 7 out of 7 coin tosses and also winning 7 matches - Now make that 7 from 8 on both counts! We had to lose eventually but a correct call this week may have resulted in a different outcome as we were inserted on a damp pitch and from ball one you began to get the feeling it wasn't our day as Steve T chipped the first delivery of the game to mid on. Dogged defence together with the odd attacking stroke by Jones and Street steadied the ship but you always felt a ball had your name on it whether it hopped off a length or shot through.Credit goes to Maldon bowlers for putting it in the right areas but the scorecard showed all 10 Haverhill wickets were caught and 6 perished playing shots to mid off or long off and the other 4 close in front of the wicket to deliveries that 'popped'. Defending 128 was always a tall order with the pitch drying out and Martyn bowled his heart out but was rewarded with just one wicket from 15 excellent overs.Dan W. picked up the other 3 wickets to fall but the Maldon opener Barnes somehow chipped and nudged his way to 67 to steer his side home by 6 wickets. If I'm honest our technique was found out on a tricky pitch as our own track is so flat and true and planting the front foot and playing through the line becomes second nature but cricket is not all about playing on flat featherbeds. Heads up boys, pity I called tails!
