Win Number 3 In The Bag. Aches and Pains took a day or two longer to heal this week as I was asked by Graham to play in the first ever game for the newly formed 2nd XI Sunday Team. An enjoyable experience it was as the youngsters that took their first step into adult cricket were a credit to the club and with this side being the natural progression from Martyn's excellent youth set up, it is important that senior players offer their services from time to time to pass on a few tips for this team to flourish. Give Graham a ring, I'm sure some of you can help out a couple of Sundays during the season. On to Saturday, and Halstead 3's were the latest visitors to The Manor. I heard the groans as on a lovely sunny afternoon, I decided to field. A fiesty South African opener blazed away from the off although he didn't connect with two many and Martyn hit his big toe more often than he hit a boundary. Spurred on by various family members and hangers on, our very own version of The Bangladesh Express was the main wicket taker this week but all bowlers again showed admiral control and 7 more catches were held, although myself and Greg made a bit of a meal of ours. The debut of Mrs P's homemade Chocolate Strawberry Cake at tea was a resounding success and Steve T and Carl B obviously took a liking to it as an opening partnership of 75 put us in control. Carl won't admit it but he counts his runs and was batting fluently including a couple of OFF DRIVES! but on reaching 40 suddenly turned into some sort of mad dervish, hitting directly at fielders and setting off for suicidal singles, swinging and missing with more and more desparation and pacing around the crease like a caged lion.Thankfully, a thick edge to third man and a scampered 3 saw him home to a well deserved half century.Carl being Carl of course didn't leave it their and with one run needed for victory he took a wild swipe and was bowled. Sam H, looking more assured each innings, hit the winning run for the second week running and an eight wicket and 3rd victory was in the bag. Looks like Micky's personal trainer could be busy this week! Julian Poole
