Haverhill Sunday 1sts vs Brettenham
Struggling Brettenham won the toss and decided to bat on a typically slow and flat looking Haverhill track. Opening bowlers Russell Davis and Carl Muller looked to make early inroads into the 9 man team. Both bowled very economically and with pace, however, Carter and Corbyn batted very watchfully to push the score onto 35-0 off 14 overs. Joe Woodley introduced himself into the attack and immediately changed the game. Three wickets fell in the 15th over as Woodley had Carter caught well by Bradford. He then proceeded to bowl Moyer and uproot Hardir’s off stump out of the ground first ball. Dan Poole then nipped out the Brettenham skipper, Corbyn for a determined and gritty 25. This left them wobbling at 74-4. Rob Sullivan replaced Woodley at the pavilion end and claimed three wickets for no runs. His aggressive and hostile bowling had ripped through the tail to restrict Brettenham to just 80. After tea Haverhill began their innings poorly, with Sullivan being bowled for 0 by Brinkley having played a loose stroke. Dean Sharpe meandered to the crease at number 3 and immediately tried to enforce his authority. Having struck a couplke of well timed boundaries, he also perished. At 38-2, Brettenham could sense a slight scent of victory, however, Nigel Proctor and Phil Dingley squeezed the life out of Brettenham. Proctor nudged his way to 14 and Dingley made 18 in quick time. Both fell bowled and it was left to Carl Bradford and Dan Poole to milk the bowling and collect the 25 runs required for victory.
