Haverhill Sunday 1sts VS Mellis 21/06/09
On an overcast and muggy day Haverhill were put into the field by a makeshift Mellis captain. The toss proved decisive. Although Russell Davis and Carl Muller struggled a times to control the swinging ball, Haverhill restricted Mellis to 23-0 off 8 overs. Muller got the breakthrough with some quick and straight bowling, bowling Prior for 0. Davis then got the all important wicket of Farrant. The catch was taken exceptionally well by Dan Poole, low to his right for 0. From then on it was plain sailing for Haverhill as Woodley and Sullivan ripped trough the middle order with some aggressive and pacey for four and three wickets respectively. Zaib came on and nipped out Horn and Mellis were bowled out 73 on a pitch which held very few demons. Haverhill replied with a changed batting order. Top class batsman Dan Poole opened with big hitting Phil Dingley. They got Haverhill off to a solid start before Dingley perished on 8 with the score on 20-1. Bradford Fell LBW to Morgan for 0 and Watkins followed for 3. Adrian Wigan and Poole appeared to steady the ship before both got themselves out within two overs as Haverhill fell to 45-5. Zaib quickly followed in his first match fir the club and this brought Joe Woodley and Chris Thompson to the crease. Needing 29 to win on a lively and fast track with only 4 wickets to spare, Thompson played the aggressive role whilst Woodley held up an end. The pair batted sensibly and with orthodoxy to guide Haverhill home. Thompson finished on an excellently made 21 not out and Woodley finished on an obdurate 3 not out to sustain Haverhill Sunday Firsts 100% 2009 record. |
