Earl Stonham vs Haverhill 1st XI
Haverhill lost the toss and were pleasantly surprised to be put into bat on a baking hot day. Openers Chris Thompson and Robert Sullivan set about the Stonham bowlers, propelling Haverhill to 61-0 off 9 overs. Thompson was bowled by Dix for 17. This brought Dan Poole to the crease. Poole and Sullivan combined superb hitting over the in field with well placed singles. The pair put on 110 in only 15 overs. Sullivan unselfishly perished trying to maintain the ridiculously high run rate. He had scored 80 runs from only 71 deliveries. Haverhill changed their batting order and promoted big hitting and fast scoring Russell Davis to number 4. While Poole continued to milk the bowling, Davis set about catching up! Davis plundered 85 runs from only 48 ball and this included 7 massive sixes. In the meantime Poole reached his maiden century for Haverhill and finished the innings with a mammoth six into the field behind the ground. Haverhill had reached 345-2 off their 40 overs. Stonham began their reply steadily and pushed the score onto 22 before a wonder catch in short cover from Joey Kettle off the bowling of Muller, gave Haverhill their dream start. Woodley nipped out 2 quick wickets and this brought Stonham’s last hope, Tunstall to the crease. After surviving an extremely close Leg Before shout from Woodley, Tunstall accelerated his way to 70 before Dean Sharpe produced the ball of the match to cartwheel his stump. With the game all but won, Callum Lewis, Carl Bradford ad Robert Sullivan helped themselves to 4 wickets between them. Earl Stonham were bowled out for 223. |
