Match Report for Haverhill Sunday 1st XI vs Brockley. 03/05/09
Haverhill lost the toss and Brockley decided to bat on what looked a dry and dusty wicket. Davis and Kettle kept the run rate down and soon found early breakthroughs. By the tenth over, Haverhill had restricted Brockley to 23-5. This in most part to tight bowling and exceptional catches, notably from Dingley who took a one handed diving effort to dismiss Pilo-Beech. Reed slapped some quick runs but Dan Poole’s slower ball deceived Reed who found the safe hands of Kettle at square leg. At 64-8, Haverhill sensed a quick victory, however, Meekings and Smith dug deep to nudge Brockley to 96-8. Woodley made the decisive breakthrough and Davis finished Meekings off to finish with excellent figures of 4-42 and restricted Brockley to 98 all out.
In reply, Wigan and Proctor started very defensively to prevent past Haverhill vs Brockley batting collapses. The Brockley bowlers bowled very tight lines but Proctor and Wigan were equal to them. When Wigan departed for 11 with the on 65-0, Thompson came in and steadied the ship. Proctor took it upon himself to push the run rate up as he hit a flourish of boundaries included a massive six which dented the chairman’s car. On 45 though, Proctor run out of luck and found covers safe hands. It was left to Poole and Thompson to knock off the required runs. Haverhill maintained their winning start to the season thanks a genuine all round team performance.
