WALSHAM 2nd XI v HAVERHILL SUNDAY 2ND XI
16TH August 2009
Haverhill made 50 before losing opener Graham Brandejs to a wonderful catch. Alex Archer joined Sam Hartshorn for a 40 run partnership. Archer 17 followed by Hartshorn with another solid innings of 36 keeping the rate high. Middle order wickets followed cheaply before No.7 Steve Saville taught younger members of the side how it should be done. A sensible, very solid 70 runs not out from Steve Saville meant a total of 220 for 8 at the close for Haverhill. Walsham veteran opener John Wright edged the first ball, a very difficult chance to keeper Alex Archer who unfortunately spilled it after getting a glove on it. This would have been a prize scalp as Wright went on to make 69. The first wicket was a great throw from Sam Hartshorn to run out the other opener in the tenth over. The next wicket didn’t fall until the 33rd over by which time a partnership of 130 had been amassed. An excellent late rally by Haverhill bowler Steve Fox getting 5 for 54 meant a very close finish. 5 needed of the last over, Walsham scrambled victory with two balls remaining for the loss of eight wickets. |
