NOWTON v HAVERHILL SUNDAY 2ND XI
26th JULY 2009
Batting first, Haverhill were off to a decent start with 36 on the board before the loss of opener Graham Brandejs. Anthony Phillips then joined Sam Hartshorn for another 36 partnership before Hartshorn went for another fine innings of 42. The next partnership between Liam Savage and Phillips proved a match winner with them adding 100 together before Savage was out caught behind for a very valuable 63. Middle order wickets tumbled regularly before Billy Gage joined Steven Fox and the two batted sensibly to see out the innings for 200 for 7. Nowton never really got going against the required rate of five an over and were soon in trouble against the fast, accurate opening bowlers Tom Saville and Steven Fox. At 38 for 4 in the twelfth over Nowton’s task was increasing but skipper Jonsson showed good resistance with 38 before being bowled by Tom Saville. The middle order batting was torn apart by David Saville with 3 wkts for 14 from his six overs. Nowton lasted their full 40 overs and finished on 147 for 9 with number ten bat Sean Dunnatt unbeaten on 37. Another excellent win for Haverhill.
