HAVERHILL SUNDAY 2ND XI v WOOLPIT ACADEMY

Haverhill with an extremely youthful team won the toss and batted. Openers Sam Hartshorn and David Saville saw the score to 30 before Saville was stumped. Liam Savage briefly showed his potential before being bowled for 13. A solid partnership followed between Hartshorn and Steven Fox. Hartshorn’s wonderful innings was ended when he was stumped for a personal best for Haverhill of 59. At halfway Haverhill were nicely placed at 112 for 3. The next twenty overs saw a flurry of cheap wickets until young wicketkeeper Alex Archer smashed a very quick 30. A final wag of the tail by Steve Saville (19) gave a final score of 216.
Woolpit’s reply was slow and steady for ten overs with 37 scored before Haverhill broke through. Opener Dinkele and number 5 bat T.Stephens put up firm resistance but the remaining batsmen went cheaply to some fierce and accurate Haverhill bowling.  Asif Javeed generated good pace from a short run up and finished with 3 for 19 off 5 overs.  Star bowler was Joey Kettle with great figures of  5 wickets for 15 off 6 overs. Haverhill won by 109 runs.
