HAVERHILL SUNDAY 2ND XI v MILDEN
14th June 2009
Haverhill fielded only three players over the age of 17 for our match against Milden. Haverhill openers Sam Hartshorn and David Saville occupied the middle for twelve overs worth 48 runs before Saville was brilliantly caught at slip. Craig Williams and Sam Hartshorn continued the good work before Williams was bowled. Liam Savage posted his intentions from his first ball, a cracking four. Hartshorn was LBW for 43, his top score for Haverhill and continues to show increasing confidence and ability. Steven Fox joined Liam Savage and the two plundered the bowling for the remainder of the innings , Savage 74 not out and Fox 27 not out giving Haverhill a total of 206 for 3 from their allotted 40 overs. Haverhill bowled and fielded superbly, all chances were held and fielding was of a high standard. What was exceptional was the performance of our 15 year old keeper Alex Archer, with two great catches and two stumpings. With the score at halfway only 62 for 3, it gave Haverhill the chance of using eight bowlers, some of which rarely get a chance to bowl. Two wickets each for Tom Saville and Graham Brandejs, the others being shared by our other bowlers. Haverhill finished off Milden all out for 121 with six overs to spare. This was a fine display by a very young side. Haverhill’s cricketing future looking good.
