HAVERHILL SUNDAY 2ND XI v WALSHAM-le-WILLOWS 2ND XI
31st MAY 2009
Haverhill put in a fine team performance to secure a win by 30 runs on a warm and very sunny Sunday at the Manor Road ground. Winning the toss and batting, Haverhill got a steady start through Sam Hartshorn and David Saville. The middle order saw a fine 40 from Anthony Phillips, 21 from Steven Fox and 33 from Steve Saville. The total of 174 unfortunately included three run outs and failed to use all 40 overs. Fine accurate bowling from Haverhill opening bowlers Steven Fox 8-4-12-1 and Tom Saville 8-1-20-2 kept the rate low. Ten overs gone,17 scored and at halfway Walsham were 68 for 2. Both these dismissals came in David Saville’s 4th over, the first L.B.W the second a stunning caught and bowled. Veteran opener John Wright scored 65 and stayed for most of the innings and for a time threatened to take the game away from Haverhill but excellent bowling and sharp fielding saw a win for Haverhill.
