Haverhill Cricket Club

A bright, but cold and breezy, day for our second home match of the season v League new comers Bardwell. A formidable team who got off to their league start by crushing Stowupland without loss last week. Haverhill batted first and stuttered a little before Liam Savage added some runs and stability. A very nice partnership developed in the middle order from Adam Dellar 50 and Steve Fox 39 before both departed with nine overs remaining. The Haverhill tail wagged very enthusiastically with Steve Levitt adding his Haverhill best score of 15 and Steve Saville not out 14. Total after 40 overs was 207 for 9.
The Bardwell openers both continued where they left off from their first game in reply and scored 94 before losing their first wicket, being very well caught by Liam Savage off Steve Saville. After being behind the run rate for the first 20 overs, Bardwell increased the pace and balanced the game. As wickets began to fall it was clearly going to be a tight finish. Steve and son David Saville once again were rewarded for their toil with five wickets between them. Eventually opener S.Larder was very well caught by Adam Dellar on the boundary for a fine 118. The last over started with 8 required for a win by Bardwell, which came down to 2 required from the last ball. Bardwell beat the close field cordon and scrambled the two required for victory on the last ball.
