Haverhill Sunday 2nd XI v Acton
April 26th 2009
The first match of the newly formed Haverhill Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI was played at the Manor Road ground against Acton 2nds in beautiful weather. Haverhill fielded a balanced side of experience and developing young players, with three players getting their first taste of senior cricket at Haverhill. Young openers David Saville and Sam Hartshorn got the side away to a good start, Julian Poole came in at three and stayed for the rest of the innings for a superb 87. Haverhill’s innings closed at 221 for 4.
Acton replied with a solid start , losing their first wicket at 53. Father and son combination Steve and David Saville soon got in amongst the wickets and between them took seven Acton wickets. A very solid all round team performance proved too much for Acton who were all out for 107, Haverhill winning by 114 runs. The debutant young trio of Craig Williams , David Baulcomb and keeper Alex Archer were all excellent and the season could not have had a better start for the new side. |
