The home side won the toss and elected to bat and the opening pair of Carl Bradford(31) and Jon Watkins(14) got Haverhill off to a solid start.Phil Jones continued his recent good form with a steady knock of 42 but a heavy rain shower mid afternoon livened up the pitch and a couple of quick wickets fell soon afterwards leaving the home side on 155-6 after 32 overs.
An excellent partnership of 73 then took place between youngsters Sam Hartshorn(29) and Rus Davis which helped project the Haverhill total to 260-8 off their allotted overs with Davis finishing on a well made 55 not out.
Credit goes to the young Brockley bowling attack who stuck to their task and showed plenty of potential.
The Brockley reply never really got off the ground as Hoque produced a devasting 12 over spell of seam bowling which saw him remove the top six of the visitors line up.Rus Davis(2-26) and Sam Hartshorn(1-22) produced admiral back up and Brockley were bowled out for just 80 in 28 overs.
Skipper Julian Poole said 'Nurul always seems to save his best for Brockley and it was his day but I'd like to put in a good word for the excellent partnership between Sam Hartshorn and Rus Davis who both batted with maturity above their years when we were in a sticky situation'
Haverhill Seconds have another home game this Saturday against Kelvedon and Feering. |
