POOLE SPINS SECONDS TO VICTORY
Maldon was the destination for Haverhill Seconds and on the back of last weeks excellent win confidence was high.Perhaps over confidence was a better phrase as the two opening Maldon batsman played an array of attacking shots against the Haverhill attack and the visitors found themselves chasing leather on a hot and sticky afternoon.

With the opening partnership over 100 and bowling options running out fast, skipper Poole decided to give himself a bowl to see if he could stem the tide of runs and in his very first over trapped Washley LBW for 50 and in his next over he removed the other opener.
Poole and Dan Webb then bowled in tandem and on the hard and dry pitch, spin was the favoured option and Maldon batsman came and went at regular intervals and were finally all out for 164 in the 43rd over, Poole finishing with 6-21 off 11 overs and Webb 3-42 off 11.
As is the norm with the twos, they lost an early wicket in reply but Jon Watkins, who was given his chanceat opening, together with Phil Jones set about chasing down the target and Jones(51) was dealing mainly in boundaries.
Steve Taylor(49no) joined Watkins and this pair saw Haverhill to the brink of victory beforeWatkins went for a well made 34.Victory by six wicketscame up in the 27th over to see the Seconds pick up another 20 points.
Skipper Poole said 'I had a weakened bowling line up today andwhen theywere a hundred and some for no wicket the heads had dropped a bit andI looked round and saw limited options so I thought I'd give myself a go and once the arm got loose I found quite a bit of turn and was pleasantly suprised to return with such good figures'
The Seconds are at home to Brockley Seconds this Saturday. |
