Mellis won the toss and batted , soon showing what a formidable force they are with their present line up . Openers Box and Farrant settled into a steady run rate, dominated by Chris Farrant’s very powerful hitting. It wasn’t until the 23rd over that Steve Saville broke the partnership with the score on 117 . Four more wickets fell in the Mellis innings, three going to the bowling of Russell Davis .The innings was dominated though by a wonderful knock of 116 from Chris Farrant and the innings closed at 232 for 5.
Haverhill’s reply got off to a stuttering start with both openers Adrian Wigan and Neil Mitchell going cheaply. A good partnership of 55 was formed between Liam Savage and Dan Poole before Savage was out for 28. Dan Poole showed once again what a quality batsman he is, amassing 64 as partners came and went around him. Three wickets went to a veteran Mellis spinner whose bewitching flight and varying spin produced three stumpings . The innings closed with three overs to spare , Haverhill all out 147. Next game is away to Tuddenham Sunday 27th July. |
