The home side were asked to bat on what looked an excellent wicket and after the early loss of Taylor, stand in skipper Phil Jones(30) and Greg Street(34) composed an excellent stand of 63 in the face of some very accurate bowling.
Street was third out in the 27th over with the score on 102 and Luke Youngs was joinedby Mick Rinaldi and it was this pair thatincreased the run rate with Luke playing some exquisite cut and pull shots and with Micky operating mainly in boundaries. A match winning 110 standsaw Youngs finishing on 68 from 75 balls and Rinaldi on 63 in just 47 balls. Josh Meekings hit a rapid 19 at the death which saw the Haverhill total reach 252-5 off their allotted overs.
In the knowledge that the visitors had a strong batting line up nothing was taken for granted and Meekings and Rus Davis both bowled controlled opening spells and kept the run rate in check but it was a smart run out that saw the opening wicket. This brought the hard hitting S.Worne to the crease and he started attacking from ball one and put Haverhill on the back foot but two wickets in the same over from Nurul Hoque brought the home side back in the game. Meekings returned and removed the dangerous Worne and with the run rate increasing the Kesgrave batsmen were starting to play risky shots and hence wickets started to fall regularly. Dan Webb was the main wicket taker again with 3-62 and the visitors finished on 201-9 giving Haverhill victory by 51 Runs.
Skipper Poole, who was out witha knee injury said ' Its so much harder watching than playing but the lads did a clinical job today and seeing Luke Youngs playing shots all round the wicket and Mick Rinaldi back to his belligerent best, it bodes well for the rest of the season. Still a long way to go before promotion can be talked about but this victory has given us a little breathing space on the teams below us'.
