The home side elected to bat first on a hard but green looking surface and the Haverhill opening attack of Josh Meekings and Nurul Hoque soon found the conditions to there liking as the first three Mersea batsmen were removed without a run on the board and with Josh bowling with good pace and Nurul with controlled accuracy the home side were reduced to 40-6 with Meekings finishing with 4-14 and Hoque 2-21.
The wily spin of Dan Webb was introduced and he soon mopped up the tail and finished with impressive figures of 4-6 off 4 overs and this left Mersea all out for just 66 off 22 overs.
Haverhills batsmen were looking to wrap up victory in double quick time and despite the early loss of Bradford, Steve Taylor (39no) and Luke Youngs (22no) steered the visitors to the victory total in just 12 overs.
Skipper Poole said ' Mersea were short of a couple of players but you can only beat what is put in front of you and the bowlers maintained good discipline and backed up by some smart fielding the job was done efficiently and it enabled the team to get back to Haverhill to watch the 1st Team secure an excellent win'
This Saturday the Second XI are at home to Coggeshall. |
