On a track that was in superb condition Haverhill were put into bat. A solid and very profitable partnership was put together by Haverhill openers Adrian Wigan and Carl Bradford of 70 in 13 overs before Bradford was out for 38.

The bowling tightened it’s grip a little at this stage as Dave Godwin settled himself in at number three. Wigan was bowled in the 19th over by Walsham’s best bowler of the day Andy Garnham for 37. Dan Poole 12 , Liam Savage 14 , and Joey Kettle not out 8 followed to partner Dave Godwin as he proceeded to open his shoulders to finish with an excellent 71 not out .

Haverhill had set a total of 208 for 4 for Walsham to chase.

Walsham’s reply started well with openers Wright and Jackson reaching 70 and surviving 16 overs before Dean Sharpe had Wright caught by Steve Saville at third man.

With Steve Saville bowling a superbly efficient and economical spell from one end , another change of bowling at the other end brought on the young Joey Kettle .

He was up against some determined and at times very powerful batting but kept his nerve and line to bowl a great five over spell , getting three vital wickets. With opening bowlers Joe Woodley and Dan Poole back on and the target getting increasingly stretched , they finished the job and Walsham were bowled out for 161 , Haverhill won this key game by 47 runs.

Skipper Graham Brandejs said , “ The most pleasing thing to come from this game was the great teamwork and concentration shown by Haverhill. The batting was focused and very solid , the fielding and bowling was the best I’ve seen all season .
