The home side opted to bat on a good looking pitch and despite losing an early wicket, Neil Winter(48) and Phil Jones(40) constructed a good partnership against some tight bowling and at the half way stage Haverhill were 104-3 and looking well set.
Unfortunately, the middle order all got themselves in but no one pushed on for a big score and hence were reduced to 163-8.
Sensible batting from John Watkins(16no) and Dan Webb(11no) ensured the overs were used up and left Haverhill on 192-8 at tea.
Mick Rinaldi struck early onbutthe classy Australian opening bat for the visitors Monteich(81) was punishing any bad bowling and Haverhill found themselves on the back foot.
However, a controlled spell of spin bowling by Dan Webb kept the run rate in check and pressure began to tell and a couple of excellent catches saw the visitors reduced to 150-5 and Haverhill in with a chance.
This was soon dispelled when the hard hitting Creasey hit a quick fire 30 to see Felixstowe to victory by 5 Wickets.
Skipper Julian Poole said ' On a good batting strip, I felt we were 25-30 runs short of a competitive total and so it proved but the fielding standards never dropped and we gave a very good side a run for their money'
The Seconds have another tough fixture this week when they visit Eye and District on Saturday. |
