Withersfield batted first on a hard track in good condition with openers Dan Goldsmith and Adam Taylor opening their shoulders from the start . Both batsmen offered difficult chances early on , and the old cricket saying , “catches win matches” proved true again .

Fine batting from both Withersfield openers produced a match winning stand of 149 before Goldsmith was bowled by Joe Woodley for 83 . His partner Taylor was dismissed three overs later for 66 . Our bowlers toiled well in the heat , showing determination and focus on the task , unfortunately the same could not always be said of fielders with some heads going down under the pressure . A big total , 262 , was attained by Withersfield for the loss of 7 wickets .

Haverhill’s batting task was always going to be difficult at a rate of 6.5 runs per over . A bright start from our openers Neil Mitchell and Phil Jones , complimented later by excellent innings from both Dan Poole ( 36 ) and Carl Bradford ( 48 ) and later by Joe Woodley and Russell Davis were the Haverhill highlights . The run rate was getting bigger as the match progressed , and Haverhill’s target switched to getting batting points . Haverhill were eventually all out 195 , losing by 67 runs . Next game is away to Lakenheath on 12th August.
