Haverhill were asked to bowl first on a hard dry track which was in excellent condition. First blood to Haverhill was with the score on 16, which was followed by the highest partnership of the day,54. Otherwise runs were hard to come by , due to accurate economical bowling and sharp fielding by Haverhill .

A mark of how well Haverhill performed in the field was the fact that Exnings’ final total of 145 in 39.2 overs was their lowest since joining the league four years ago.

When Haverhill went in to bat , Exning’s bowling and fielding proved to be equally tight , with occasional wickets taken and not allowing any sustained partnerships to be achieved by Haverhill .

Opening batsman Martyn Wilkins carried his bat with a splendidly dogged 64 not out , but Haverhill fell just 10 runs short for the loss of 6 wickets. A close game , with great team effort and spirit shown by Haverhill . Next game is home to Withersfield on August 5th
