The pitch looked a good one but the opening bowling attack of Hoque and Davis bowled very tidily and restricted the run flow and a couple of smart catches reduced the home side to 30-2.A good partnership then ensued from the next pair and a couple of dropped catches(again!) allowed Kesgrave to pass the 100 mark in the 26th over.
The breakthrough was made by the wily spin of Dan Webb who again provedthat line and length coupled with subtle changes of pace is always a winner and wickets fell at regular intervals after thatand the Kesgrave innings was brought to an end with a smart run out off the last ball resulting in the home side being restricted to 180 with Webb finishing on 5-47 from 15 overs.
Haverhill started their reply steadily but both openers fell in quick succession. A composed knock of 29 from youngster Luke Youngs steadied the ship but when he was out to a smart catch it left the visitors on 79-4 off 25 overs.Skipper Jones was joined by the athletic Rinaldi and these two experienced campaignersadded a partnership of 64 before Jones was out for 30.
A couple of quick wickets and the departure of Rinaldi(46) left Haverhill in a precarious situation and when the last over began Haverhill needed 10 for victory with Webb and the injured Paul Turner at the wicket.Webb hit two sublime cuts for 4 and together witha scampered single meant the scores were level with one ball to go.
Turner nudged the finalball and set off but was run out at the bowlers end resulting in a tied match.
Team Manager Poole said'The game swung one way and then another and both teams could say they should have won but in the end a tie was the right result.Watching the seconds play is a bit like a roller coaster ride and the whole season so far has been like today, long may it continue'.
