Haverhill vs Sudbury
Haverhill lost the toss and was asked to bat. With the absence of Neil Winter due to injury Rob Sullivan (24) opened the batting with Simon Youngs (38) providing a solid platform for the middle order to then push the score on. Rob Sullivan hauled out to Long-On after some aggressive batting while Simon Youngs soon followed caught from a sharply hit off drive at wide mid-off.
Adam Dellar (51) played a controlled innings with some superbly timed othodox shots to the boundary through cover. The innings of the day goes to Dan Poole (83 n.o) who played well above his years pushing sharp singles and turning ones into twos with hard running. Dans shot selection frustrated the opposition bowlers but when faced with tight line and length bowling Dans ability to roll the wrists and target the boundary square of the wicket was superb. His best so far.
Haverhill 5 for 220
Rain halted play when Sudbury started their chase at 0 for 2 after 1.4 overs.
Captain Says:
Opening the batting this week was an absolute pleasure on two fronts, batting with Simon Youngs was great and the rekindling an old one dimensional skill brought back some memories. The ball was swinging about early and making me look somewhat awkward but by applying the right attitude I got through. Thankfully some early inaccurate bowling gave me a chance or two to hit the boundary once in a while before trying to be too clever and getting myself out.
Personally speaking an enjoyable start to the day. But more enjoyable was seeing Dan Poole show what he is capable of, he scored runs quickly through the field and over the top with timing and grace. A real pleasure to watch. It was a shame that we got washed out it would have been un uphill battle for Sudbury to chase 220 on a slow damp wicket and outfield. |
