Great Team Effort Secures Win
Haverhill Sunday team were away on Sunday 15th at Ampton & Culford’s rural pastures, set on the fringes of Thetford forest, complete with very rustic facilities.
Haverhill batted first on a track that was green and seaming and set off with a very strange first over, two fours from Phil Dingley followed by two wickets in two balls from Craig Rutterford for the home side.

Dan Poole and opener Carl Bradford then made a good recovery with a partnership of 57 before Bradford was out lbw to Rutterford . The scoreboard was still moving swiftly with 63 off the first 7 overs, but with wickets falling also at a steady rate it always looked as though Haverhill were not going to use their allotted 40 overs . Dan Poole , with yet another excellent innings was bowled by Rutterford for 46 which brought Joe Woodley to the crease .
Joe with 32, backed up by successive partners Russell Davis 15 , and Kieron Bailey not out 25 got Haverhill to a respectable 174 all out during their 37th over.
Ampton & Culford’s opening bowler Craig Rutterford finished with 10 overs, 6 wkts for 44 runs .
Rutterford was also opening bat for Ampton, and he added to his excellent bowling by getting 51 in an opening stand of 80 with fellow opener Paul Brame.
It was not until the 20th over that Haverhill got their first wicket . Kieron Bailey getting Rutterford very well caught by Carl Bradford running in from deep mid-off.
Joe Woodley was bowling very economically from the other end, but without the reward of wickets that he deserved.
Kieron Bailey was picking up wickets and being extremely economical about it putting pressure on the batsmen to go for the big hit over the top, finishing his 10 over spell with the fabulous return of 5 wickets for only 22 runs .
For the last 8 overs Dan Poole and Russell Davis returned , Russell Davis doing a great job of getting 4 – 27 , including the dangerous bat Will Stone, brilliantly caught by Phil Dingley.
Ampton were getting closer during this last period of play , but with 23 needed from the last two overs they fell short and Haverhill won by 11 runs . |
