 Worlington - Away
Haverhill V Worlington

Haverhill lost the toss and were asked to bat. Neil Winter (62) and Simon Youngs (7) opened the innings on a firm wicket despite recent rainfall. With a cracking start from Neil, hitting four fours in the first over, spirits were high. Simon lost sight of a quick ball which pitched on leg stump and bowled him, bringing Martin Wilkins to the crease. A brief breakdown in communication between Martin and Neil led to Martins hasty demise after a score of only 5 runs.

The inform Adam Deller (30) arrived next at the crease and made a welcomed immediate impact with penetrating back foot strokes through cover. Unfortunately his impact wasn’t to last and he was run out at the non-strikers end.

With contributions from the rest of the team, Greg Street (17), Dan Poole (11) and Paul Sullivan (11) Haverhill limped home to 187.

Russ Davies and Martin Wilkins opened the bowling, but the first wicket was slow to fall, eventually Russ provided the breakthrough Haverhill desperately needed (1 for 101) With a few maiden overs Rob Sullivan and Joe Woodley took the crease, managing to bowl twenty overs for 3 wickets and 77 runs, Joe bowling 9 overs, 1 maiden and 1 wicket for only 20 runs. Although the team played well, regrettably this was to prove to little to late and the home team finished with four for 191.

Skipper Says:

A disappointing result, but a game played in good spirits. Being over half way through the season, the pressure is now on. These end games are the most crucial when you’re out in front, being on top is a great feeling but to maintain it you need to dig even deeper and be mind full not to take your foot off the accelerator. I have experienced many a season in Australia where we’ve been leading the table, chilling the beer ready to celebrate then losing the trophy as quickly as we had it in the final stages.

I’ve noticed how the English often lose that animal instinct when things are going well too, I’m certain its not complacency maybe just the energy levels running on low. Us Aussies are renowned for being vocal, but the intentions is to keep the energy up, carry on fighting and keep team spirits high right up until the last ball. Of course, if we are able to shake and stir the opposition, that’s a bonus!

We need to keep up the hard yacker if we are to remain on top and be the season winners.
