Having been put into bat on a wet wicket, Haverhill lost two quick wickets before Carl Bradford(20) and Mick Rinaldi (40) put on a steady partnership of 50.

Unfortunately both players were out in quick succession and the rest of the batting order found runs hard to come by and Haverhill found themselves bowled out for 120with the only other player to get into double figuresbeing Josh Meekings who made a patient 20.

Clearly, Haverhill needed early wickets to upset West Mersea but the opening bowlers only managed one between them in their opening spells so skipper Jones turned to Meekings and the spin of Dan Webb and this paid dividends as each took a wicket early in their spell.

The Mersea dangerman McClellan was the important wicket but he scored 35 in quick time before Webb bowled him with the score on 72.The game was now in the balance but a couple of dropped catches cost Haverhill dear and Mersea edged past the requiredtotal for the loss of 8 wickets, Dan Webb finishing with 5-49 from 11 overs.

Overall, another match the seconds should have won but it is becoming a bit of a recurring theme with the team just failing when the chips are down. They will hope to pick themselves up with a home match this week against Maldon.
