Horringer won the toss and elected to bowl on a pitch that was fairly green and soft . Appearances deceived though with the ball getting both lift and pace off the pitch . Phil Dingley was very well caught at point of a rising ball with the score on three .

Liam Savage joined opener Phil Jones and together their partnership was worth 74 runs before Liam Savage was bowled for 25. Dan Poole came to the wicket and he and Phil Jones set about the Horringer bowling with some beautifully controlled batting . Phil Jones reached his fifty during the partnership with the pair putting on another 62 runs for the third wicket . Phil Jones was the next to depart , caught deep on the square leg boundary for a great 61 with the score on 139 after 26 overs . Carl Bradford joined Dan Poole , and Dan , now with his eye well in , was hitting the bowling to all parts of the ground and showing no mercy to the bowlers. What followed in the next twelve overs was a very powerful display of batting from Dan and Carl who together put on 97 for the fourth wicket . Dan Poole departed late in the innings after scoring 88 from only 51 deliveries , 62 of which came in boundaries . On a pitch where everyone before the game considered 150 from 40 overs would be a competitive score , Haverhill had amassed a magnificent 249 for 6 wickets .

Horringer started their innings brightly , but opening bowlers Joe Woodley and Russell Davis soon started to reduce Horringer’s chances of scoring quick runs with some accurate pace bowling . A good first wicket stand of 71 was achieved by openers Seabrook and Morse before Morse was bowled by Phil Weston . If Haverhill were already on course for a win by means of their large total , what followed in Phil Weston’s next over surely made it certain . With deadly accuracy the left arm over the wicket paceman took three wickets in five balls . Phil Weston took another in his next over giving him bowling figures of 6 overs ,1 maiden , 5 wickets for 20 runs.

Some resistance was shown by Matt Menhinick , the Horringer number 3, who was still their while his partner’s stumps were being knocked over at the other end . A change in bowling again to give Phil Weston and Dan Poole a rest , brought back Russell Davis and Joe Woodley who duly obliged with the remaining 5 wickets between them . Russell Davis finished with 3 wickets for 27 off 9 overs and Joe Woodley 2 wickets for 52 . Horringer had gone from 71 without loss to 127 all out .

Through a combination of supremely accurate bowling , sublime batting , sharp fielding and great teamwork Haverhill won by 122 runs with 10 overs to spare .
